With NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor
Sysname
NADPH:NAD+ oxidoreductase
Reaction(IUBMB)
NADPH + NAD+ = NADP+ + NADH [RN:R00112]
Reaction(KEGG)
R00112
Substrate
NADPH [CPD:C00005];
NAD+ [CPD:C00003]
Product
NADP+ [CPD:C00006];
NADH [CPD:C00004]
Comment
A flavoprotein (FAD). The main function of the enzyme is to oxidize excess of NADPH, forming NADH that supplies electrons to the respiratory chain. cf. EC 7.1.1.1, proton-translocating NAD(P)+ transhydrogenase. This entry stands for enzymes whose stereo-specificity with respect to NADPH is not known. [cf. EC 1.6.1.1, NAD(P)+ transhydrogenase (Si-specific)].
