KEGG   ENZYME: 2.1.1.16
Entry
EC 2.1.1.16                 Enzyme
Name
methylene-fatty-acyl-phospholipid synthase;
unsaturated-phospholipid methyltransferase
Class
Transferases;
Transferring one-carbon groups;
Methyltransferases
Sysname
S-adenosyl-L-methionine:unsaturated-phospholipid methyltransferase (methenylating)
Reaction(IUBMB)
S-adenosyl-L-methionine + phospholipid olefinic fatty acid = S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine + phospholipid methylene fatty acid [RN:R03410]
Reaction(KEGG)
R03410;
(other) R01320 R03424
Substrate
S-adenosyl-L-methionine [CPD:C00019];
phospholipid olefinic fatty acid [CPD:C01229]
Product
S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine [CPD:C00021];
phospholipid methylene fatty acid [CPD:C04215]
Comment
The enzyme transfers a methyl group to the 10-position of a Delta-olefinic acyl chain in phosphatidylglycerol or phosphatidylinositol or, more slowly, phosphatidylethanolamine; subsequent proton transfer produces a 10-methylene group (cf. EC 2.1.1.79 cyclopropane-fatty-acyl-phospholipid synthase).
History
