The N-acetylglucosamine specific phosphotransferase system (PTS) enzyme IIABC is the most easily adaptable PTS in Escherichia coli for transporting and phosphorylating glucose, other than the glucose PTS and mannose PTS, which are the primary glucose transport systems.
