Summary
UbiE is the closest Escherichia coli homolog to B. stearothermophilus MenG (MenH, SP O86169). ubiE mutants accumulate DMK, not MK. rraA (menG) does not encode a methyltransferase. [More information is available at EcoGene: EG11473]. The ubiE gene product, a C-methyltransferase, catalyzes reactions in both ubiquinone (Q) and menaquinone (MK) biosynthesis.
