Purpose: To evaluate the concentration of sFas in serum of uveitis patients.
Material and methods: Serum samples were collected from 13 patients with uveitis and 12 controls. All patients have underwent ophthalmic and laboratory examinations. The sFas levels were determined by immunoenzymatic assay ELISA.
Results: We found statistically increased levels of sFas in serum of patients with uveitis compared with controls.
Conclusions: Our results suggest a systemic nature of uveitis with persistent activation of the immune system. Apoptosis may play regulatory role in ocular inflammation of patients with uveitis.
