Apolipoprotein E as a risk factor for coronary heart disease: a genetic and molecular biology approach

Curr Opin Lipidol. 1996 Apr;7(2):59-63. doi: 10.1097/00041433-199604000-00002.

Abstract

For a long time it has been suggested that apolipoprotein E4 is a major risk factor for coronary heart disease although indisputable proof has been lacking. However, context-dependent influences of apolipoprotein E polymorphism on the risk for coronary heart disease have been reported; that is, depending on ethnic origin, gender and lifestyle, apolipoprotein E4 confers a major risk factor for coronary heart disease.
