Definition

A serious AIDS-related opportunistic infection of the lungs, caused by Pneumocystis jirovecii. It is one of the most common AIDS-related illnesses and is a major cause of morbidity in patients with AIDS. Signs and symptoms include cough, fever, dyspnea, and pain or tightness in the chest. [from NCI]
