Normocytic normochromic anemia

Postgrad Med. 1977 Jun;61(6):139-42. doi: 10.1080/00325481.1977.11712225.

Abstract

The first steps in managing a patient with suspected anemia are to confirm the diagnosis and to determine the morphologic type. The normocytic normochromic type has many causes, two of the most common being chronic disease and drug therapy. The anemia of chronic disease is often mistaken for iron-deficiency anemia and treated with iron supplements.
